THE WHAT?This summer, we will embark on the Mongol Rally, one of the worlds last great adventure races; all in aid of charity, good fun and the desire for adventure. 10,000 miles of potholes, strange borders, deserts, mountain ranges and many different cultures await our little one litre car.
THE WHY?The reason we are attempting to drive one third of the way across the planet is not simply for fun but also, and more importantly, for two very worthy causes. The first is the Christina Noble Foundation, an Irish charity which was set up to help homeless children live a better life. The second charity, and one that is very important to the team, is for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, a cancer research centre which does excellent work in the hope of one day finding a cure for blood cancers. Without research centres such as the Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research, finding a cure for cancer would not be possible. It is important that these centres are supported and promoted and this trip aims to publicise the work they do while also trying to raise €10,000 for charity. THE HOW?Imagine yourself in the middle of the gargantuan Kazakh desert, your car slowly being shredded by the dirt track your map says is a motorway, completely lost, hundreds of miles from civilisation. Just you, your wits and a car that the laws of physics say shouldn't have got you out of Dublin.
The Mongol Rally is not a rally in the conventional sense where you must finish first, rather it is an endurance race where reaching the finish line in Mongolia is the challenge. No support vehicles are allowed to accompany us so any problems we encounter will have to be solved by the three of us who who will be tested both mentally and physically.
Any donations for our charities would be much appreciated and would go a long way to helping two very worthy causes.
